Chrome Extension Hack Night - February 2!
Tomorrow, for the February meeting, we will be having a Google Chrome Extensions Hack Night from 7-9PM at the Medicom Digital offices in downtown Minneapolis. Chrome extensions are based on HTML and Javascript, so if you can build a website, you can build an extension. Be sure to bring along your laptop and some ideas for interesting Chrome extensions. We will use the first 90 minutes for hacking followed by a quick show and tell portion where everyone can demo what they worked on.

Below are some videos and websites from the most recent TC-GTUG theater night that provide a basic overview of Chrome Extensions and how to write one:

December Meeting: Google Wave Roundtable Discussion and It's TOMORROW!
We will be having a meeting TOMORROW December 1, 2009 from 7-9PM at the Medicom Digital offices in downtown Minneapolis.
We will be doing a roundtable discussion on Google Wave and everyone can demo what they have discovered with Wave and discuss potential uses of Wave technology. This meeting will be an open discussion, but we will try to keep focused around the following key topics:
- What is Google Wave?
- What uses are there for Google Wave?
- What are the current strengths and weaknesses of the Google Wave?
- How does one develop for Wave?
- What has already been developed for Wave?
Unfortunately, Medicom won’t be able to sponsor pizza this month, but there had been discussion about chipping in for pizza. In order to judge pizza interest, I’ve added two types of tickets to the RSVP system for “w/ pizza and w/o pizza”. If you want pizza, you will need to contribute $5 to cover pizza costs.
Topic: Google Wave (Demos and Roundtable Discussion)
Date: Tuesday December 1, 2009 (Tomorrow!)
Time: 7PM-9PM
Location: Medicom Digital
212 Third Ave. North Suite #295

Google App Engine rocks and Blue Shift Labs were awesome.
We had a good turnout last night. Dan Frankowski and Max Harper gave and enthusiastic presentation on using Google App Engine to host thier Minneapolis based startup application. Dan [at blueshiftlab.com] and Max [at blueshiftlab.com] are both super smart and gave a good, realistic talk about the pros and cons of hosting an application on Google App Engine.
They were gracious enough to share thier slides here: http://blog.blueshiftlab.com/2009/11/intro-to-google-app-engine-tc-gtug.html. Be sure to sign up at http://www.blueshiftlab.com/ for announcements (especially when their new desision helper app is released in the upcoming weeks).

September Meeting Recap
Here’s a quick recap of what happened at the September meeting:
For the September meeting, we invited Justin Grammens, the owner of
Localtone Interactive to present a deep dive into Google Android.
Justin went through a thorough presentation and presented the code for a
simple demo Android application that loaded the tc-gtug.org website, RSS
feed, and the RSS feed from our Google Group in a tabbed layout. We
reviewed the code and actually submitted and published the application
into the Android Market during the meeting.
Slides from the presentation:

Source code from the TC-GTUG demo:

As we wrapped up the Android materials, we discussed plans for future
meetings and decided to dive into Google Chrome in October and AppEngine
in November. If you know someone who could talk about either topic in
depth, please have them contact me. If we can’t find an expert in the
area, we can divide up the presentation and everyone can do a little
research on a specific angle and come and present what they found.
